The Hoyt bow is actually the most popular of all bows if you happen to hunt and for people who are competing in archery events. Hoyt is among the best available on the market - fast to use and also incredibly quiet. Unsurprisingly most bow shooting contests have been won by those who make use of Hoyt bows. Try one on your own and you may perhaps understand precisely why.

Hoyt utilizes what is known as "split limb" technology. Thus they are quieter - as pointed out, lighter in weight to work with as well, and yield almost no vibration. Working with a light-weight bow is especially beneficial in the event you hunt - easier to carry for lengthier distances.

Split limb is preferable to solid limb technologies that is popular amongst other bow producers, mainly because its more durable. Solid limb usually tend to fracture about the v-groove, just where the cam is mounted. Splits also are inclined to appear just where the limb mounts upward to the riser.

It has been demonstrated in testing that solid limb technology has a tendency to fail at approximately the 25 dry fire mark. With regard to split limb this improves enormously to approximately 1000 dry fires. The fragile point of the v-groove is removed in the split limb hence its hugely increased durability.

Furthermore Hoyt bows make use of vibration-reduction technology. Their TEC design offers the capacity to reduce low-frequency vibrations and the bows ringing vibration is also reduced by Hoyt's Riser Shox engineering. Regarding those of us that are unacquainted with precisely how vibration reduction is significant - if shooting continuously then bow vibration has a tendency to lessen the user's level of comfort.

Precisely what do Hoyt offer with regards to bow varieties? The compound bow - have a look at the new super light and ultra speedy 2009 AlphaMax 32, which offers brand new technology to the serious hunter. They weigh merely 3.9lbs. The limb and pocket technologies have each been refurbished as has the cam and riser. One very serious bow for the serious hunter!

Hoyt offer approximately 20 distinctive compound bows, which includes a junior bow among the range too. Presently there are 2 hunting recurve bows plus a further 5 competition recurve bows with a range of limbs to meet your requirements.

I suggest if you are seriously interested in your bow or maybe are becoming much more serious, take a look at the Hoyt range. There is something available for all serious bow hunters as well as competitors.

You Need To Try Striper Fishing Using Live Eels In The Chesapeake Bay

Some other techniques come from many different regions. In locations having deep water over underwater reefs, they are fished with a good sized sinker along with 3 way swivel. The primary line will be fastened to the three way. 18" of Forty lb floro plus a 6/0 circle hook go to the middle eye. The sinker is actually fastened to 2' of 20lb test together with a breakaway rig, just like the one put to use in several bottom hi-lo rigs. Circle hook varieties operate best regarding this set up given that the bait is, in many instances, taken before most people feel the bite. Heavier tackle is going to be the key here. Further up my way eels usually are drifted, trolled and plugged.

Anytime you are drifting eels, under water mussel beds, the river mouth area, under water reef, rock piles or sandbars come up with decent ambush points. 20 - 30lb test line in addition to a 18-24" length of 25lb floro carbon leader in addition to a 4/0-6/0- hook will give you a chance at a respectable striper. A smaller rubber core sinker could be added if you feel the eel is not getting to the fish. However, we feel this is unnecessary most of the time. I combine trolling and plugging any time I am fishing the river. 20 lb test will be as light as I go. The eels will be trolled with the tide. Only fast enough for you to make headway speed, search for creek mouths, mussel beds, and also grassy banks. While trolling, an additional eel is cast and retrieved up ahead with wonderful results. Make sure you reel all the way to the boat. We cannot count the baths we have seen people get whenever they lifted the bait as a striped bass made a final effort to snag the eel. Angling the beachfront, I will go lighter if the striped bass are fussy and the water is loaded with striped bass. The actual approach is similar. I troll the sides of sandbars and plug the eel into the surf line on beachfront rock piles like we have here, Many of us use the electric motor in order to work the boat toward and around the rock while we plug the eels into the bones. For the novice, get a pair of buckets that fit into one another, drill quarter inch openings to let the water out and put in a bag of ice. Dump your eels onto it. They will take a nap until they hit the water. Handle them using a coarse dry rag. I like the regular shop hand towel. Sometimes, eels like to ball up and knot your line. A sudden slap on water will take the struggle out of these most of the time. Sometimes, an effective beating is in order. As long as that sucker curls his tail, he'll catch striped bass. Whenever moving from place to place, we like to put down the rig in order to keep the eel from balling up. Examine your leader frequently. When you break off a large fish, it is not the time to find a knot. By way of shore or ship, a live eel is definitely your best ticket to a big night time striped bass. Eighteen inches is about as long as you want. Everything longer than that is tricky to cast and not needed. A lot of people choose hooks that are plainly too big. The larger the hook the harder it is to set.

Precisely how you fish the eel would depend upon many factors from water depth to tidal flow, in addition to the area of the water column where the striper are feeding. A weightless eel will find its way to the bottom up to about twenty feet unless of course the tide is really ripping. Once your tempter has reached the sought after area, if the tidal current is sufficient, the eel can be permitted to drift, sustaining a tight line to continue to keep it from becoming a problem.

Coming from a sandy beach, wade out and cast parallel to the beach front. Work the eel slowly and gradually alongside the beach shore. Where offshore bars are common, an eel tossed directly into the breakers and slowly worked back could often times get savage strikes.

The less time expended on gimmicks the better. I rarely even use a rag. Most often, we merely grab the little animal, jamb my thumb under its mouth, thus rendering the eel limp. It will return to life as soon as you relax your hold. It usually takes practice. Clearly, whenever the shoreline is loaded with mung, you cannot fish the most flourishing area.

Eels are generally, under most circumstances, a night time bait, but I also have done well with them during the day mostly during the fall run. That's the great thing about striper - they do not study books on what they are supposed to do! On the contrary, we recollect being told that herring were mainly effective after the sun came up. We recollect one July trip when my partner and I got all our herring by 2:30 (AM). Long tale short, we were out of bait when the rest of the team came out. We begged some extra bait from all of them, under the pretense that all ours had died. Wow, were these people ticked-off the instant they found out exactly how many striped bass we snagged! Moral of the story, by no means limit yourself to one single technique. Attempt something different even if it appears crazy. If we had a dollar for every single fish that we caught that wasn't supposed to be where it was or take a specified bait or feed on a certain tide, I'd personally stop working and go somewhere nice and find myself a huge fish or two! Certainly , there is much more to it than the things I've chosen to put in this article.

UFC Flashback: Joe Lauzon Tops Jeremy Stephens In Ultimate Fight Night Main Event

Ever since he burst onto the MMA scene Joe Lauzon has been working to earn respect. Hes lost only once since then--to top contender Kenny Florian in a bout that earned fight of the night honors--but for some reason hes had trouble being taken seriously as a top contender in the UFCs lightweight division. In the main event at the UFC Ultimate Fight Night in Tampa, Lauzon withstood a game challenge from late replacement Jeremy Stephens to earn a 2nd round submission victory.

Lauzon was in control of the fight throughout, but Stephens gave a good account of himself despite his opponents obvious technical superiority on the ground. Lauzon appeared to be on the verge of ending the fight midway through the second with a ground and pound assault that he attempted to transition into a rear naked choke. Stephens fought back with a vengeance despite his disadvantageous position and opened a nasty cut on Lauzon's forehead with an elbow strike.

As puddles of crimson gathered anytime Lauzon's head neared the mat, he gained a new sense of urgency not wanting to lose on a stoppage due to the cut. He regained control on the ground and caught his opponent in an arm bar. Stephens tried to extricate himself, but was eventually forced to tap giving the bloody Lauzon a hard fought triumph.

The semifinal matchup featured another impressive effort from Cain Velasquez, who many have pegged as the heavyweight superstar of the future. Velasquez is a formidable physical presence at 6'2" 241 pounds, and has very well developed technical skills for a fighter with only five bouts under his belt. He trains with the American Kickboxing Academy, and has a reputation as the hardest worker and most dominant sparring partner in a gym who includes among its membership superstars such as Bobby Southworth, Cung Le and Josh Thompson.

Velasquez had some difficulty finishing off tough UFC newcomer Dennis Stojnic. Stojnic displayed impressive toughness and a chin of granite, which is less surprising given his training home at Amsterdam's Golden Glory gym where he works alongside such fighters as K-1s Semmy Schilt and DREAMs Alistair Overeem. Stojnic did become the first of Velasquez's opponents to make it into the second round as he withstood a brutal beating near the end of the first to make it to the bell.

In the second round, Velasquez quickly caught his opponent and sent him to the canvas with a nice combination which he followed up with another ground and pound attack. Stojnic again kept trying to defend himself despite a hellacious beating, though the referee finally jumped in and stopped the contest awarding Velasquez the TKO verdict.

On the undercard, Josh The Dentist Neer earned a tapout victory over the sports best known (and perhaps only) vegan, Mac Danzig. Danzig looked decent in the first round but in the second he looked listless and quickly fell victim to a nasty triangle choke.

In the opening bout of the evening, up-and-coming welterweight Anthony Rumble Johnson used his significant height and reach advantage to dispatch tough Luigi Fioravanti.

The live crowd in Tampa gave a very poor account of themselves, at times booing fighters mercilessly for no apparent reason whatsoever. This was in addition to the usual booing when the fight goes to the ground typical of uneducated MMA fans--they often turned on fighters midbout for no discernible reason. Their behavior reached a nadir in Cain Velasquez's post fight interview, where he was booed mercilessly despite an impressive victory and informing Joe Rogan that he was about to become a father for the first time. It was somewhat surprising, since the Tampa/St. Pete area is home to a flourishing MMA scene.

Colts' Owner Irsay Says Team Will Break Bank To Retain Peyton Manning

In what has to be one of the least difficult front office personnel decisions in sports history, Indianapolis Colts' owner Jim Irsay has confirmed that the team will sign quarterback Peyton Manning to a contract extension that could make him the highest paid player in NFL history. Manning's current deal will expire after the end of the 2010 season, with the final two years having been voided due to his meeting a number of performance based criteria. The decision was made before the Colts' Superbowl loss to the New Orleans Saints.

You can tell that an owner is adamant about resigning a player when he tells the media that he wants to make him the highest paid player in league history, and Irsay did just that:

"You know it's going to get done. I think it's clear, and we'll start on it this summer. That's been the way we do things [to hammer out an extension when a player is entering the final year of his contract]. And it'll be the biggest [contract] in history; there's not much doubt about that."

Not exactly the most advantageous negotiating position to make public that you're committed to breaking the bank to resign a player. Then again, it's not like Manning is a quarterback that can easily be replaced as Irsay emphasized:

"It simply comes to one question, and that's replaceability. Everything is based on the replaceability factor. You make decisions based on who you can afford to target and keep. ... Other guys you really want to [re-sign] you might have trouble doing it, because of what it costs you, and how much attention they're getting [from other teams in free agency]. We don't have that luxury and we've had to work hard."

Manning's agent, Tom Condon, has already had preliminary discussions with the Colts' management about a new deal. Condon also represent's Peyton's brother Eli Manning, and negotiated a $97.5 million contract extension from the New York Giants for him last year. Peyton's contract will almost certainly exceed those figures, with some speculating that he could receive $20 million per year with a $50 million signing bonus up front.

The Indianapolis Colts offense was in high gear on Thursday night as Peyton Manning threw two TD passes in three series of action, leaving backup Curtis Painter with a 14-0 lead over the Philadelphia Eagles before exiting the game. The Colts went on to win 23-15 in NFL preseason action.

Manning was in good spirits as he discussed the Colts' offense after this game:

"I think everybody wanted to be in there. The entire offense felt hungry after last week. Sure, there were some mistakes we can learn from, but there were some good things we can learn from."

"I don't think anybody offensively was really happy with what happened last week. It started with me and the entire offensive starting unit. Overall I thought everybody came back and did a better job tonight."

Colts head coach Jim Caldwell was likewise pleased with the performance:

"They [the starters] had a couple of real good solid drives in there, performing pretty well. We were pleased with what we saw."

Eagles coach Andy Reid wasn't the least bit enthused with what he saw from his team:

"All in all, that was an embarrassing performance and way too many penalties, not enough intensity all the way around, starting with me. It was a poor performance."

The Eagles were missing a number of starters and aside from a nice touchdown pass from Donovan McNabb early in the game looked nothing like a team expected to contend for a Superbowl berth. The Eagles would go on to choke mightily in the playoffs, an obvious karmic payback for signing unrepentant dog abuser Michael Vick. Vick was ineffectual all year, which made the hubris of bringing him into the fold even less understandable.

Philadelphia will host the Jacksonville Jaguars next Thursday night looking for their first win of the NFL preseason. The Colts will continue their NFL exhibition slate as they travel to Detroit for a game against the Lions a week from Saturday.

UFC 98 Review: Machida, Hughes Big Winners

When golf legend Jack Nicklaus was still a young upstart in the sport and only starting to tear up PGA courses, legend Bobby Jones commented following 'The Golden Bear's''65 Masters win that "he plays a game with which I am not familiar". Following Lyoto Machida's absolute destruction of Rashad Evans in the main event of UFC 98, there's likely a few MMA fighters saying the same thing. Machida completely befuddled Evans en route to a 2nd round TKO victory after which 'The Dragon' looked as if hed barely worked up a sweat.

The fight started slowly, with each man trying to get a feel for his opponent and wait him out to see who blinked first. Late in the first round, Machida went on offense with frightening suddenness, flooring Evans with a nice straight right hand. Evans was able to recover and survive, but it only delayed the inevitable as Machida used another right hand to send his opponent down again. Evans gamely tried to fight back, but a final right hand from the Shotokan Karate master left him out cold.

After the fight UFC announcer Joe Rogan proclaimed the start of the Machida era and this is not just mere hyperbole. Machida is unlike any fighter before him, rooted in mastery of traditional martial arts but with the versatility of a modern MMA competitor. He's essentially a Mortal Kombat character come to life--in a more realistic cross disciplinary comparison he shares many of the same characteristics as boxing great Floyd Mayweather, Jr. as he combines insane handspeed, underrated stopping power and nearly impenetrable defense into an unorthodox and extremely lethal package. Like Mayweather, hes a tough opponent to prepare for as there's simply no way to replicate his skill set in sparring.

Outside of the cage, Machida is a modest and respectful gentleman who is quick to give credit to his father and his karate teachers for his MMA success. He spent most of his UFC 98 postfight interview not singing his own praises, but imploring others to strive to realize their dreams. In the past, his limited English was seen as a potential marketing liability here in the US but on this occasion he demonstrated vastly improved fluency in the language as a Portuguese translator stood by.

An odd trivia note about Machida serves as further repudiation for MMA neophytes who think that the sports kinship with pro wrestling began with Brock Lesnar: Machida was discovered by Japanese wrestling legend Antonio Inoki, and became something of his protege. He trained for some time at the New Japan Pro Wrestling dojo in Tokyo.

Perhaps the most frightening thing about Machida is that hes only now reaching his full potential as an MMA fighter. In other words, hes only going to get better which is a scary prospect for opponents given the fact that hes never lost in MMA competition. Early in his UFC career he had a reputation as a boring fighter, but in his recent bouts hes shown a downright lethal ability to end fights. He stopped Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou at UFC 79 with an arm triangle choke, and blitzed Evans and previous foe Thiago Alves with punishing punching combinations en route to TKO victories. The so called boring fighter has in the process earned two UFC knockout of the night bonuses by virtue of his evolving power punching skills.

Machida will very likely face Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson at some point in the future and, with all due respect to the PRIDE/UFC veteran, its difficult to see him faring much differently than Evans did. One thing working in 'Rampage's' favor is his greater experience and a resume filled with high level opponents of various fighting styles.

In the co-main event of the evening, Matt Hughes defeated Matt Serra by unanimous decision to gain the upperhand in their long running feud. It was a surprisingly entertaining fight, with Serra taking the first round with his power punching before Hughes used his takedown and ground control abilities to win rounds two and three. The two men embraced after the fight so, for now at least, their well known dislike for one another that began during their stint as rival coaches on The Ultimate Fighter may have ebbed. After the fight, Hughes backed off his previous talk of retirement after this matchup and clearly indicated that hed like to keep competing in the UFC.

Fedor To Face Rogers In November Strikeforce MMA Debut

Fedor Emelianenko will make his debut for the Strikeforce MMA promotion this fall, facing undefeated prospect Brett Grim Rogers. Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker made the announcement at a Showtime promoted Fedor open workout in New York City.

Fedor is considered by most experts to be the best heavyweight MMA fighter in the world, if not the best of all time. He snubbed the UFC following Afflictions exit from the MMA promotion business, choosing to sign with the up-and-coming Strikeforce promotion. Strikeforce agreed to co-promote with M1 Global, a Russian based promotion company owned by Fedors manager Vadim Finkelchtein and to allow the fighter a non-exclusive deal that would enable him to compete in Japan and Eastern Europe. These had been major stumbling blocks to signing with the UFC.

After signing with Strikeforce, Fedor gave his usual low key comment:

I am looking forward to going back to work and fighting at the highest level. STRIKEFORCE is a top fight promotion that houses some of the greatest fighters in the world. I am prepared to fight any of them.

Emelianenkos manager, Vadim Finkelchtein commented:

I am very happy and excited about the upcoming collaboration with Strikeforce. We are very pleased that we found a reliable partner and I feel that Strikeforce and M-1 can support each other on many things. This will create big opportunities for both parties to test their fighters against worthy opponents.

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker concurred:

We are extremely excited to have the opportunity to work with M-1 Global and Fedor. Fedor has been the reigning king of MMAs heavyweight division for quite some time now so being able to work with M-1 and Fedor will substantially increase the level of competition amongst the athletes in this weight class.

Fedor will put his 26 fight winning streak on the line against Brett Grim Rogers, who himself will enter the fray with an unblemished 10-0 record. The Minnesota native was originally being groomed by Elite XC as an opponent for street fighting phenom Kimbo Slice. After the demise of that promotion, Kimbo ended up on the UFC reality show The Ultimate Fighter while Rogers went to Strikeforce. His stock shot up precipitously following a first round knockout of former UFC champion Andrei Arlovski in his last fight, and now he takes an even bigger step up in class against The Last Emperor.

Fedor vs. Rogers Strikeforce betting lines have not been posted as of yet, but the Russian fighting god will clearly by a huge favorite.

Kansas City QB Cassel's Status Uncertain For NFL Opener

The good news for the Kansas City Chiefs as they prepare for the start of the NFL regular season is that their starting quarterback is back at practice. The bad news is that they still dont know when hell be able to play. Matt Cassel returned to the Chiefs practice field on Monday for the first time since he injured his left knee in a NFL preseason game on August 29th. Still, theres been no confirmation from either he or the team as to when hell return to action. It would be an ironic twist if Cassel lost significant time due to injury, as it was a knee injury to Tom Brady while in New England that first brought him mainstream attention

Cassel, who saw his stock shoot up precipitously as an NFL QB following his solid play in New England after starter Tom Brady went down to a season ending injury, signed a six year, $28 million contract with the Chiefs in the off season. Although Cassel participated in Monday's practice albeit on a limited basis, head coach Todd Haley was noncommittal about whether he or Brodie Croyle would start Sundays NFL regular season opener on the road against the Baltimore Ravens:

"I think that as the week goes on, we'll know a little bit more. We'll know a little bit more with Matt for sure. But it was good that he was out there. He was able to get through some things. As the week goes on a little further, we'll know a little more as far as where he's at."

"It's good this is a long week. That will help with anybody who's nicked up. I would say generally you would need to have a full practice to have a chance to play. Generally, you need to have a full Friday practice to have a chance."

With or without Cassel, the Chiefs offense sputtered in the preseason scoring only two touchdowns. The lack of productivity cost offensive coordinator Chan Gailey his job and Kansas City stumbled to a 0-4 record in their NFL exhibition contests. Haley has taken over the offensive play calling for the time being, though it made no difference in the Chiefs final preseason game. Neither Croyle nor third stringer Tyler Thigpen was particularly sharp in preseason play, though Croyle got the most work and should get the nod on Sunday if Cassell is unable to play. To be fair, neither QB got much work with the Chiefs' first team offense in the preseason either.

No matter who ends up under center for Kansas City as they start their NFL regular season, theyll face a tough assignment against the defensive tenacity of the Baltimore Ravens. The Chiefs will welcome the Oakland Raiders to Kansas City in week 2 of the NFL season, and play the next game on the road against the Philadelphia Eagles.
